beejakshara mantra Mahavidya TARA

Mahavidya TARA

Tara Mahavidya

Tara means rescuer is the second of Dasa Mahavidyas. Mainly Tara is a form of Durga or Parvati.

Origin

The oral tradition gives an origin to the goddess Tara. The legend begins with the churning of the ocean between the Devas and Asuras. Lord Shiva drank the poison (Halahala) that was created from the churning of the ocean (in the process turning his throat blue and earning him the epithet Nilakantha), thus saving the world from destruction, but fell unconscious under its powerful effect. Tara Ma appeared and took Shiva on her lap. She suckled him, the milk from her breasts counteracting the poison, and he recovered.

Dhyanam
Tara is described as seated in the pratyalidha asana, on the heart of a corpse, supreme, laughing horribly, holding cleaver, blue lotus, dagger and bowl, uttering the mantra Hum, coloured blue, her hair braided with serpents, the Ugratara. She bestows all supernatural powers.

Her mantra is given in Mantra Mahodadhi as:

"Om Hreem Streem Hum Phat "

"ॐ ह्रीं स्त्रीं हुं फट् ॥"

If Om is removed it becomes the Ekajata Mantra.

If Om & Phat both are removed it becomes Nila Saraswati Mantra.

Chhinnamasta Mahavidya

Chhinnamasta Yantra

Chhinnamasta Worship is mainly performed for getting a son, to remove poverty, to gain wisdom, to destroy enemies and to be a poet. Chhinnamasta is associated with the concept of self-sacrifice as well as the awakening of Kundalini.

Origin

In a story from the Shakta Maha-Bhagavata Purana, which narrates the creation of all Mahavidyas including Chhinnamasta, Sati, the daughter of Daksha and the first wife of the god Shiva, feels insulted that she and Shiva are not invited to Daksha's yagna ("fire sacrifice") and insists on going there, despite Shiva's protests. After futile attempts to convince Shiva, the enraged Sati assumes a fierce form, transforming into the Mahavidyas, who surround Shiva from the ten cardinal directions. Chhinnamasta stands to the right of Shiva in the west.

Dhyan

Inclined towards lust, she sits erect above the god of love, who shows signs of lustfulness. She looks like the red China rose. - Chinnamasta Tantra
